The USDA is pulling 143 million pounds of beef off store shelves all across the country today.
The Department of Agriculture is recalling beef products from the California-based Westland-Hallmark meat company that dates back to February first, 2006
Federal investigators say they have evidence that Westland did not routinely contact its veterinarian when cattle became non-ambulatory after passing inspection, violating health regulations.
Officials say this is the largest beef recall ever in the United States.
No illness has been linked to the products.
Westland Hallmark supplies beef to the federal lunch program and major fast food chains.
No charges have been filed against Westland, but an investigation by federal authorities continues
A company statement posted online said Westland has met the highest standards for harvesting and processing meat under the federal meat inspection act and that they are working with federal investigators
