Hundreds of Properties to Auction

More than 100 Vanderburgh County properties will be auctioned off at the end of the month. Theyre lots that previous owners failed to pay taxes on or abandoned. Now theyre left for Vanderburgh County to maintain and get rid of. According to the County Commissioner, Jeff Korb, theyre trying to make it as easy as possible for buyers, and hope an auction will expediate the process. Why so many homes? Korb clarifies: "It appears we have a lot of people who cant pay their taxes, thats not the case. There are some people who cant, but many of these homes have rolled over from tax sales in years past. It looks like a much bigger problem than it is." While the amount of lots may not be a huge problem, it is a lot of work. Many of the properties are run down. He warns, "its a buyers beware market. Bidders may have to wait as long as 6 month to a year to get a deed."
