Tri-staters got a trip around the world tonight thanks to the host of National Geographic Explorer. Lisa Ling was at the victory theater tonight as part of the cities diversity lecture series. Lisa Ling is probably most famous for her years working on the view, but her background is in international news. Its those experiences shes sharing with her audience tonight. Tonight the Victory Theater is full of inspiration and opportunity "I was really excited when I heard she was coming," says fan Jaime Hess. Brought to you by Lisa Ling. Shes the host of National Geographics Explorer. "Ive been able to travel the world over," says Ling. Its the tales from those travels shes sharing with those in attendance at this diversity lecture series. "I really believe people are hungry to know whats happening around the world they just arent offered the opportunity." USI Senior Hess wasnt about to miss the opportunity to hear Ling speak. "Im a journalism student at USI. Shes kind of one of the people I look up to." Hess can even give you details of Lings stories that have touched her. "North Korea. When she went over there was amazing and brave considering shes a woman journalist too. But Ling is just as touched to speak with Hess. The veteran journalist started her career at the age of 16. By 25 she was a lead war correspondent. "I would love to convey the importance on not turning your back on people whose voices arent readily heard." Especially for the young women like Hess. "Theres so much to learn from everyone if you just take the time." And thats exactly why theyre here listening to her tonight. This is the second in a list of speakers with the diversity lecture series. Next up is Magic Johnson slated to speak in October.
