FBI profilers are examining all the information from last Thursdays shooting at Northern Illinois University in efforts to determine the gunmans motive.
Steven Kazmierczak opened fire in a lecture hall, killing six people including himself.
According to NIU Police Chief Donald Grady, Kazmierczak may have wanted to confuse investigators by removing the hard drive from his laptop as well as a data card from his cell phone.
Grady said the gunmans girlfriend, Jessica Baty, is cooperating with investigators.
He also said that while she had told investigators that Kazmierczak acted erratically after going off his medication, she gave differing statements to CNN in a television interview.
Police are trying to gain access to his medical records to see if the 27-year-old had a mental illness.
In Illinois, mentally ill people are barred from holding a gun permit.
