Study Shows Spanking May Lead To Sexual Problems Later On
Could spanking your children actually cause them to be more prone to sexual problems later in life? Thats what a new study suggests.
Specifically, it says inflicting physical punishment on kids could lead them to coerce a sexual partner or engage in risky sexual behavior later on, according to "USA Today." Murray Straus of the University of New Hampshire-Durham, known for his research on violence in families, will present his findings at the American Psychological Associations Summit on Violence and Abuse in Relationships.
He examined sexual coercion and risky practices among more than 14-thousand college students.
A University of Michigan researcher said children may internalize spanking to mean theres sometimes pain or physical aggression in loving relationships, or that whoever is stronger can overpower the other person.
But another researcher said linking spanking with sexual problems is a quote, "big leap," and may be one element that might contribute to sex problems or risky sex.
