Officers Check In on Registered Sex Offenders

"We don't ever see them, they're pretty quiet," said Jean Rodgers, "They keep to themselves as far as I know."
Rodgers lives just a few houses down from where she says the sex offender, his girlfriend and another room mate moved into a home a couple months ago. She says they haven't been a problem. But just to be sure, authorities checked in on the man.
"I think it's wonderful. Especially if a neighborhood has small children. I think it's a good thing they're doing," Rodgers said. When police got there, the person in question was at work. But the girlfriend and room mate were home, along with plenty of drugs. Inside, officers say they found marijana, a "bong", synthetic pot, and prescription muscle relaxers.
Despite this particular check ended in a drug bust, KSP trooper Corey King says most checks find the offenders have done nothing wrong.
"The far majority are going to be compliant because they know not only are we looking at them in law enforcement, but their peers and their neighbors. They're going to know what they've done," he said. "So when we go to that house we're going to know exactly who we're dealing with, and of course everything is case by case, but we'll determine is that person compliant, based on their stipulations."
That's helping Rodgers breathe a sigh of relief.
"I think it's going to help a whole lot, as long as they're registered, so people will know," she said.
In the case on St. Ann Street, the drug apparently belonged to the man's girlfriend. So despite what authorities found inside, the sex offender living there is in fact compliant. Two others in Owensboro were arrested Monday, however, for non-compliance.
Officers will take part in this same operation later this week in Henderson.
