A sweet idea turned into a sugary dream come true for a set of Evansville sisters. They started a bakery on Evansvilles North Main Street ten years ago, and business and cakes have "been on the rise" ever since. Starting a small business is risky. Starting one with your family is even riskier. The stakes are high. But at Piece of Cake in downtown Evansville, sisters Cate and Christi figured they couldnt lose. They opened "Piece of Cake" together on North Main ten years ago. Baby showers, weddings, the orders started rolling in. Cate and Christi soon needed a kitchen manager. But they didnt post an ad. They hired their big sister. Just like in baking, theres a formula for running a successful business. For these three, its knowing their strengths. Cates good at the books, Christis good at decorating, and Lora, she does the baking. And they say everybody excels in their own area. And its helped their business grow. But when it comes time to make the big decisions, they do that together. Christis husband also works for the cake shop part time and Loras daughter is a full-time decorator there. They really do keep it in the family. Piece of Cake is now at home in the 200 block of Main in downtown Evansville
