One of the biggest Memorial Day celebrations in the Tri-state happened this morning in downtown Henderson. Over a hundred people came out to honor the more than 4,000 Henderson County veterans who have served our country.

The service was held in Central Park where a white cross stood for each of those Henderson County soldiers since the beginning of may. For many people its tradition to come down to the park every year to honor family and friends who have served.

Damon Hicks of Henderson says, "It just feels good that the people of Henderson want to remember this and they take the time to put out these crosses and these flags  and honor our people like they should."

This is the 66th year the city has been putting on the service. Due to extreme temperatures it was moved to the center of the park under the shade. Normally its held in front of the permanent war memorial that faces Main Street.
