Reitz Memorial Principal Adams Recognized Nationally for Leadership and Commitment in Catholic Education

(Evansville, IN) – Principal Gerry Adams of Reitz Memorial High School is being honored by the National Catholic Education Association (NCEA) during the annual conference taking place in Indianapolis on March 26, 2008. Adams, who has served as principal of Reitz Memorial for the past 26 years, is one of six education leaders across the nation being recognized at the event for a lifetime commitment to lay leadership in Catholic education. With over 29 years experience, Adams has guided Reitz Memorial’s faculty and students to both academic and athletic excellence while maintaining a foundation in a community of faith. His dedication and outstanding leadership have contributed to numerous honors for Memorial including the school being named a National Blue Ribbon School of Excellence in 2001. In addition, the Memorial Men’s Soccer Team captured its 11th state championship this year to be named number one in the nation. His commitment to Catholic education goes beyond his role in the secondary schools having reached out to the feeder elementary school leaders to establish strong bonds and maintain quality education at the primary level. Adams is a graduate of Eastern Kentucky University and holds a Master of Education and a Specialist in Education degree from Ball State University. His example of educational and spiritual leadership has encouraged a high percentage of graduates to return as teachers to both Reitz Memorial and the seven Catholic elementary schools in the Diocese of Evansville. At the end of this school year, Adam has elected to retire after nearly three decades. It is most fitting for him to be receiving the NCEA award here in his home state. The NCEA recipients of the award are chosen by the Department of Secondary Schools Executive Committee. The committee places emphasis on overall leadership, faith formation and a lifetime commitment to students, professional colleagues, and the craft of teaching. Established in 1904, the NCEA is the largest private professional education organization in the world representing 200,000 educators serving 7.6 million Catholic students from elementary to college level.
