The traffic on the U.S. 41 twin bridges should only be restricted for one more day.
Thursday, crews with the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet installed sensors to measure the impact of a tow or barge hitting the bridges.
Transportation spokesperson Keith Todd says the U.S. Coast Guard calls them two to four times a year telling them a tow has hit a bridge pier.
That requires the police to close the bridge.
These sensors will measure the impact and help response time, which will in turn help decrease the amount of time traffic has to be restricted while engineers check for any damage.
The crews will also be cutting down one lane of traffic on the northbound bridge Friday, from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.
