The Evansville Icemen is now an NHL affiliated hockey team.

On Friday, the team announced a new partnership with the Ohio-based Columbus Blue Jackets.  The affiliation is the result of its move last month to the ECHL, which is a Double-A minor league.

The Icemen were second in the league this past season and made it to the playoffs.  The puck for the next season drops at the Ford Center on October 13th.

The Blue Jackets are relatively new to the NHL, coming on board in 2000.

We'll have more on the announcement coming up later tonight on Eyewitness News.
