Changes to Evansville city trash and recycling services could soon be on the way. The city's current contract for residential trash collection, disposal and recycling services will soon expire. While the city explores potential bidders for a new contract, it's looking for ways to make the service more efficient. As part of that effort, it's asking the community what it wants.

The city is considering switching to a more automated collection system and replacing trash bags with standardized trash bins. It also wants to put an end to curb-side sorting of recyclable materials -- and instead sort them at another location.

The Sewer and Water Utilities Director says these changes aren't groundbreaking. "It's a common practice among many cities across the United States and we haven't changed our methodologies for a long time so it's time to get up to the same level where other cities are."

The city is hosting three public meetings where the community can weigh in on the proposed changes. They will be held at the dates, times and locations:

Tuesday, June 26, 2012
Evansville Water and Sewer Utility Public Meeting
C.K. Newsome Community Center, 100 E. Walnut Street, Rooms A & B
5:30 p.m.

Wednesday, June 27, 2012
