US & World Summary --- Eliot Spitzer May Resign From Office After Sex Scandal (New York, NY) -- After being implicated in a prostitution ring, New York Governor Eliot Spitzer is expected to resign from office soon. The governor acknowledged making a mistake and offered a 90-second apology to his family and New Yorkers yesterday, but didnt discuss the circumstance or allegations. According to the "New York Times," Spitzer was caught several times on a wiretap arranging a meeting with a prostitute at a Washington, DC hotel. The first-term Democratic governor was swept into power on a message of ethics reform. --- Mississippi Presidential Primaries Underway (Jackson, MS) -- The polls are open in Mississippi, where more than 150-thousand people are expected to vote in the states presidential primaries. There are 33 Democratic delegates at stake for either Barack Obama or Hillary Clinton, who are locked in a tight race for their partys nomination. Those delegates will be doled out based on the popular vote each candidate receives. Theres no drama on the Republican side, where Arizona Senator John McCain has already wrapped up the nomination. The polls close in Mississippi at 8 p.m., Eastern time. --- Residents Of Florida Apartment Building Trapped In Fire (Ft. Lauderdale, FL) -- Nearly a dozen Florida residents are in the hospital after becoming trapped in their burning apartment building. The five-alarm fire last night at the multi-story apartment building in Fort Lauderdale fully engulfed at least four apartments. Authorities say many of the residents were elderly and had to be brought down to safety with the help of firetruck ladders. The cause of the blaze that left the building uninhabitable is still under investigation. The Red Cross helped about 100 people find a place to stay last night. --- Missing Pregnant Girl Found In Tijuana, Mexico (Chula Vista, CA) -- An AMBER Alert in California has been cancelled after a pregnant 16-year-old girl turned up south of the border in Tijuana, Mexico. Ashlee Crocitto was turned over to authorities and is now back home with her family after allegedly being kidnapped by her estranged boyfriend. Twenty-year-old Carlos Antonio has been arrested and could face charges of kidnapping and assault with a deadly weapon. Hes accused of taking Crocitto at knifepoint from her mothers home on Saturday. --- NBAs Houston Rockets Win 19th In A Row (Houston, TX) -- The Houston Rockets now own the NBAs third-longest winning streak. Tracy McGrady scored 19 points to lead the Rockets to a 91-73 win over the New Jersey Nets yesterday for their 19th straight win. Only the Los Angeles Lakers and the Milwaukee Bucks have longer winning streaks. The Lakers won 33 consecutive games during their 1971-72 season while the Bucks put together 20 wins in a row in 1971. The Rockets hope to extend their streak when they play the Hawks in Atlanta tomorrow. --- Gaps Seen In Life Expectancy By Education Level (Washington, DC) -- Having a college degree might help you live longer. Thats according to a new study done by Harvard University researchers, which says the life expectancy for people with at least a partial college education rose one-point-six years while it remained the same for those without any college training. The study says that in 2000, the high-school-educated group could be expected to live to 75 while those in the more-educated group might live to 82.
