Deal Possible On Indiana Property Tax

Deal Possible On Indiana Property Tax Reform (Indianapolis) -- The Indiana House of Representatives has adjourned until early afternoon for both parties to caucus, possibly on a property tax bill. The "Indianapolis Star" is reporting on its web site that Republicans and Democrats have reached an agreement on the legislation. The reason for the caucus would be to explain details of the bill to party members. The center piece of the reforms being discussed is a one-percent tax cap on the assessed value of a home. Governor Mitch Daniels proposed a two-percent cap for rental and agriculture land, and three-percent cap for business. Part of the revenue would be made up by a one-percent increase in the state sales tax. (Copyright 2008 by Newsroom Solutions) RNS-03-13-08 1053CDT
