Demand For Internet Could Outpace Network Capacity By 2011
With movies and games being thrown onto the Internet at an increasing rate, space is beginning to run out.
The "New York Times" reports the Internet traffic surge could cause sluggish download speeds when users try to access heavy data services.
Heavy data includes moving images such as video clips requiring much more bandwidth than just words or sounds.
Estimates show Googles YouTube.com used as much bandwidth last year as the entire Internet did back in 2000.
Researchers call the predicament more of a challenge than a catastrophe.
President of Nemertes Research Johna Till Johnson said, quote, "The Internet doesnt collapse, but there would be a growing class of stuff you just cant do online."
