Bradley says the baby's mother and a man were fishing along the Ohio River, when the child fell asleep. It is not known if the man is the child's father. The couple then put the baby in a car seat inside the vehicle. Shortly after, the truck started rolling down an embankment towards the river. Bradley says the man tried to jump in to stop it, but was run over in the process, and the truck then sank in the river.
Crews located the truck early Thursday morning with the help of sonar equipment. After raising it from the river, the child's body was discovered, still strapped to the car seat. Sheriff Bradley says the baby was only about a year old.
The man was taken to a nearby hospital and is listed in good condition.
