UPDATE:
The Vanderburgh County Election Board says the hot button topic of consolidation will remain on the November ballot. Up for debate was whether the league of women voters gathered enough legally verified signatures on a petition to get the issue to a public referendum. After hearing from both sides for more than an hour the board unanimously decided to allow voters to have the final say, a decision voters will make in less than 70 days. Bruce Ungethiem is with CORE, Citizens Opposed to Reorganization of Evansville, he says the group wants the issue off the ballot, since it didn't have enough signatures. Citizens for unification say CORE's claims should've been made years ago. The board's attorney agrees. The election board says it did review CORE's claims. If you think this issue is done, CORE says think again. CORE says it has an attorney and plans to  take this matter to a judge.
PREVIOUS REPORT:
The Evansville/Vanderburgh County Reorganization referendum will go before voters in November. On Tuesday, the Vanderburgh County Election Board heard about an hour of testimony, before voting in favor of keeping the question on the ballot. At issue was a claim by opponents, that the League of Women Voters did not gather enough legally verified signatures on a petition to get the issue to a public referendum.  The Election Board, however, disagreed, paving the way for the hot button issue to be decided on election day. We will have more on this story tonight on Eyewitness News First at Four.
