Governor Steve Beshear is pledging to bring growth to western Kentucky. It was the major focus of his speech today from the Riverpark Center in Owensboro. The governor says the state will provide 14 million dollars for the advanced technology center in the community college and push the extension of US-60. Two initiatives he says will help move the area ahead economically. But what he didnt promise is financial support for arts in the area. Governor Beshear says he doesnt know if that would happen just yet because of the financial crisis the state is in. Beshear says hes still pushing for expanding gaming bill. Admitting though, that hes lacking the 60 votes needed to push it further. The good news right now for the administration is the passing of the cigarette tax in the house. A 25 cent per pack hike thats expected to bring in 200 million a year.
