News Release: From: Gibson County Chapter American red Cross, Greg Waite The Gibson County Chapter of the American Red Cross will be opening an emergency shelter as of 6:00pm Wednesday evening for anyone needing to evacuate rising water levels. This shelter will remain open until further notice at our office at 312 W. State Street in Princeton. This afternoon American Red Cross volunteers surveyed the river levels in Hazleton, Cunningham Ferry and Patoka and saw rivers already over their banks. “This is the time when anyone living along or near the White, Wabash or Patoka Rivers should put their emergency action plan into place and think about evacuating while they can do so safely,” said Greg Waite, Executive Director. “We want to ensure anyone living in Gibson County that needs a dry place to sleep and wait for the waters to calm and drop, has it and we’ll keep our shelters open until the need in the community is no longer needed.” American Red Cross Disaster Assistance is free of charge and provided to help those in need with emergency shelter and food. Anyone with questions should call our office 24 hours a day at (812) 386-6300. Media Inquiries should be directed to my office (812) 589-3898. Your help getting this information out to the public is appreciated in advance.
