RED CROSS CONTINUES RESPONSE EFFORTS TO AREA FLOODING
Shelter to Remain Open Tonight; Civil Air Patrol Volunteers from Bloomington to be
Housed at Red Cross Shelter Tonight
Evansville, Ind. – The Southwestern Indiana Chapter of the American Red Cross continues to support flood relief efforts in the local community. Red Cross volunteers continue to assist with sandbagging efforts on Pigeon Creek near Heckel Road on Evansville’s east side, including sending the chapter’s Emergency Response Vehicle with volunteers to provide meals. Lunch was provided today, and dinner will served by the Red Cross this evening.
The Red Cross shelter, located at 29 South Stockwell Road, will remain open again tonight to provide emergency shelter for those displaced by flood waters. Civil Air Patrol volunteers from Bloomington, Ind. are expected to arrive tonight to help with sandbagging efforts, and they will be staying at the Red Cross shelter.
Even though the rain has stopped, runoff and backwater will continue to cause persistent or potentially worsening flooding throughout the day. The Red Cross urges extreme caution in high water areas. Motorists should not drive through standing water, as it could result in a life-threatening situation.
