Hundreds of people and floats made their way down to Franklin Street for the annual Fall Festival Parade. For two candidates running for the Indiana Governor's seat, this was more than just a parade. Libertarian Rupert Boneham and Democrat John Gregg used the parade as part of their campaign trails. "Being able to be involved in the Fall Festival, I'm having a great time," said Boneham.
Democrat John Gregg is a gubernatorial hopeful from Knox County, as well as a Fall Festival veteran. "I went to my first one over 35 years ago and I can't imagine being anywhere else this time of year but here on the west side of Evansville."
This is Libertarian Rupert Boneham's first Fall Festival. Boneham says, "I'm here at the Fall Festival and I'm loving it."
Both candidates say they each have their own reasons to include the parade in their campaign trail.
"As the Libertarian candidate I do not have millions of dollars to make an add campaign across the state. I am campaigning the old style," said Boneham.
"Being here on the west side, being here in a democrat strong home in Evansville and the parade, it's a great way to make the start of the last thirty days of the campaign so it's great to be here," Gregg tells us.
"I'm gonna be the candidate who's out there shaking hands, and listening to peoples' questions," said Boneham.
Both candidates shook hands and posed for pictures while proudly displaying their campaign symbols. Gregg says "They can either elect for a congressman or a dude with a mustache, and I tell them the answer is right under their nose."
"I am going North to South, East to West. Coming out today to the Fall Festival and playing around a little bit," says Boneham. Gregg and Boneham say they hope to use this appearance to jump start the last month before voters hit the polls.
Eyewitness News was also told Democratic candidate for U.S. Senate Joe Donnelly was at the parade along with Vanderburgh County Judge candidate Mike Wallace.
