Evansville Mobile Home Park Flooded

The flooding continues in areas of Vanderburgh county leaving hundreds homeless. Water continues to rise at the Pleasant Ridge Estates. Emergency officials and the mobile homes management called for a voluntary evacuation last night. But not everyone left. Flood water mixed with sewage is now at about a foot and a half. Even with the call for residents to evacuate some are staying put while are seeking shelter any where they can. Kelly Vasquez and her family made their way to the Red Cross on Stockwell late last night. "Its hard being somewhere different but Im glad Ive got somewhere to go." Vasquez says she decided to leave before the flooding got too bad. But she went to her mobile home in Pleasant Ridge this morning to find water reaching up to her knees. Water thats now contaminated with sewage. "It smelled horrible in my house . I just dont know when theyre gonna clean it up or how." She says she also worried about damages to valuables still at the home. But she says her family is thankful to the Red Cross for at least a place to stay. "This place is big, its clean its spacious. I have my own corner to sleep in." The flooding is mostly affecting those living on the back end of the mobile home park and those not staying with the Red Cross are finding other places to stay for the next couple of days. Jeff Mays is staying at a local hotel for the next 3 or four days. But came back just long enough to see this....."Grand babies toys are floating out of the yard, trash cans are floating out." And though the backside of the mobile home community is flooded. The front portion is dry and those residents are still here. This against the advice of emergency officials worried about the rising contaminated water and power outages. They say Vectren will continue to assess the area, and continue to cut power where needed. Now the Red Cross says it will stay open for as many days as needed. They say they have also been coordinating with the Vanderburgh County Humane Society, who have been out here picking up pets of residents needing a temporary place for them.
