Evansville Museum Director Retiring at Year's End

By: Michael C. Fehn
Updated: October 23, 2012
After nearly 4 decades of service, Evansville Museum Director, John Streetman will retire at the end of this year.

Streetman's retirement is part of a plan put into motion back in 2009.  While a national search for a new director gets underway, Mary McNamee Bower will, according to board president Steve Krohn, become the museum's interim director in January.  McNamee Bower has been with the museum for 34 years, serving as the Virginia G. Schroeder Curator of Collections.

On his retirement, Streetman says, "Now that we have assurance that our capital project will be completed, as announced last week, the trustees' search committee will have all of next year to secure a successor.  It is most encouraging to know that there are firmly in place the best-ever executive committee, board of trustees and staff to lead us into an exciting future.  I have appreciated beyond words the privilege of being the museum's director and approach my retirement with gratitude and great affection for this community."

The museum's Board of Trustees honored Streetman with the title Director Emeritus, and will pay tribute to him with a celebration early next year.
