It was a sight to see as Evansville's Air Evac Lifeteam touched down safely on the ship's deck on Wednesday morning. It was a test run for the air ambulance service, which has teamed up with the LST to make sure it can come to the rescue if there's ever a medical emergency during one of its voyages.
"We know that helicopters can land here," said Air Evac Lifeteam Program Director Lonnie Dardeen. "But the point was to come out and make sure that there are no obstacles, and we're gonna train the staff to work on making sure that it will be safe to land."
The Air Evac Lifeteam says several of its bases are close enough to reach the ship quickly, no matter where it is on its journey.
