Students at one Tri-State school aren't learning about giving back. They're raising money and doing it. Students at Plaza Park International Prep Academy on Evansville's east side donated approximately $5,000 to the Leukemia & Lynphoma Society.
Students at the school raised the money through the "Pennies for Patients" program and through donations from the cross country "Run at the Mounds" event earlier this fall. Teachers and coaches at the school said students were willing to give to a disease that affects so many children.
"It's awesome that they look outside themselves and say 'that could be me'" said Plaza Park Cross Country Coach Becky Stegemoller, "and you never know. Tomorrow, somebody from Plaza could be diaganosed. The face that they really took it to heart, they went back, there homeroom set goals and they were excited to give."
Plaza Park also recognized the top three students and the classroom that raised the most money for the campaign.
