Nearly 300 soccer teams will invade Evansville this weekend for the Veterans Invitational Soccer Tournament. Today was the open ceremonies. North High School Choir performed patriot songs for a crowd of vetrens at Goebel Soccer Complex on N. Green River Rd.

The 11th annual event salutes veterans and those on active duty. The chairman of this year's ceremonies says its a good way to teach kids not just about soccer but also teach them life lessons.

"I think for these students to be around people," said Event Chairman David Nicholason, "who have fought in World War II, Vietnam, and Korea, etc. means a lot in an education standpoint."

The tournament is played on the first two weekends of November. About 10,000 visitors are expected over the two weekends of action.
