Walk on the Wild Side

Friday, Nov 16 10:00 a.m. Museum - Bird Observation Center

Toddlers 3 - 5 years old. These 45-min.-1hr. interactive programs will explore what nature has to offer. With each new topic, toddlers will discover how wildlife and nature shapes the world we live in. Each program will involve one or more of the following activities: games, crafts, live animal visit, hike, or songs.

Nov 16 Terrific Turkeys - Ben Franklin once wanted to make our national bird the wild turkey. Join us as we learn about this secretive game bird.

Adult Artists Retreat

Beginning to advanced artists, are invited to participate in the all day Artist Retreats monthly from 9:00-3:00pm. Bring your own artwork and supplies. Lunch will be potluck. Special speakers and noon programs will vary monthly. Pre-registration is required.

Get in the holiday spirit with the Audubon Museum's kick-off to Christmas. See our new holiday dcor, shop our wide variety of unique Christmas gifts, enjoy cider, hot chocolate and homemade holiday treats and free museum tours. New holiday items include Kentucky Crafted Cedar Christmas Trees, Audubon Bird Ornaments, Cardinal Christmas Cards, Rebecca Ruth Bourbon Candy Gift Boxes, and a variety of children's toys. Door prizes and special discounts will take place throughout the day. And, a few of Santa's favorite elves will be in attendance for photos with kids and use their elf-expertise to wrap your purchases - for free!

Grandpa Jones: Country Musician and Comic portrayed by David Hurt

Louis Marshall Jones, better known as Grandpa, was the son of Henderson County sharecroppers. Hard times drove the family north to Akron, Ohio in the late 1920s. Jones, who had a repertoire of songs learned from his parents and the radio, won a talent contest that led to regular work on an Akron radio station. That launched a career that lasted more than sixty years. It was during tours with country music star (and fellow Kentuckian) Bradley Kincaid in the 1930s that Jones developed the Grandpa persona he used the rest of his life.
Beginning in 1969, television brought Jones fame as a member of the original cast of Hee Haw, which showcased his skills as a vaudeville comic. Grandpa Jones was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 1978. He never retired, suffering a fatal stroke after a performance at the Grand Ole Opry in 1998.

Owl Prowls at Bluegrass Fish and Wildlife Area co-hosted by Wild Birds Unlimited

Sundays, Nov 25, Dec 2, 16, and 30, Jan 6, and 20: 3:30 p.m. - dark; Feb 3 and 17: 4:00 p.m. - dark

Meet at the main boat ramp/information station at Bluegrass Fish and Wildlife Area (Warrick Co., IN), 1/2 mile east of the Boonville-New Harmony Road / Interstate 164 intersection (exit 15).

Come over to the Dark Side and meet the amazing birds that are active around dusk. We will visit viewing hot-spots within Bluegrass FWA and the surrounding area. Bring your camera, binoculars or viewing scope and see Short-eared Owls, Great Horned Owls, Prairie Merlins, Rough-legged Hawks, Northern Harriers, Bald Eagles, and Red-tailed Hawks. If you don't have binoculars, Wild Birds Unlimited will have some available to use. Participants are encouraged to dress warmly for this outdoor program.

Tiny Tot's Holiday Ornaments (ages 3-5)

Friday, Dec. 7 JJA Museum 10:30-11:30 Tiny tot's ages 3-5 will design and decorate an ornament just in time for your tree. Dress for a mess. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Pre-registration is required. Fee: $5.00
