The two Democratic candidates running for Indiana Governor made campaign stops in Evansville Friday. Jim Schellinger spoke about his "Pick up Indiana jobs" plan at the Labor Temple. One part of his plan is to increase workforce skills and education and training in the Hoosier state. A recent report by the Indiana Chamber of Commerce shows the Indiana workforce is falling behind when it comes to the skills and training needed for the jobs of tomorrow. Schellinger says, "I got in this race because I want to make a difference. Its the working families of this state that make this place great and I want to support them." Jill Long-Thompson made her campaign stop at the Democratic headquarters in Evansville. She touched on her "Reinvest in Indiana" plan. Last week Indiana learned new unemployment figures from the U.S. Bureau of Labor showed Indiana had the largest increase in workers filing for unemployment benefits. Thompson says, "Whether it comes to budgeting or education policy, its very important to think outside the box. I think thats why we need new leadership in the state." Whoever wins the May 6 primary will run against current Republican Governor Mitch Daniels in the election on November 4.
