Dion is a Henderson County High School graduate. He ran track and cross-country for the colonels. Dion lived in Indianapolis with his wife, Jennifer, who was a teacher at Southwest Elementary School for more than 10 years. The couple was memorialized during a candlelight vigil at the elementary school Sunday night.
Family members say the pair was passionate about gardening. Now the family wants to turn the lot where Dion and Jennifer's home once sat into a community garden. They say it's still hard to believe their loved ones are gone, but they hope something good will come from their painful loss.
The deadly blast left an estimated $3.6 million in damages. Several people were injured and dozens of homes were damaged or destroyed in the explosion. The owner of the home that was the center of the blast Saturday night says a faulty furnace may be to blame. The owner no longer lives there, but his daughter and her mother still reside in the home. Neither were at home when the explosion happened because of the broken furnace. Investigators say it will likely take weeks to figure out what caused the blast.
