The disagreements continue over separation of church and state in Muhlenberg County schools. Some Western Kentucky non-religious groups say a school board sponsored prayer is unconstitutional. As we first reported Monday, the Muhlenberg County School Board is allowing the Freedom From Religion Foundation and Western Kentucky University's Secular Student Alliance to visit schools after hours in fairness because faith based groups have already handed out Bibles and other literature in the past. The secular organizations say they'd prefer a closed door policy for all faith and non faith based groups in the schools. Now,  these groups are taking it a step further and are furious after having to wait through a prayer at the beginning of the meeting. Members are asking the board to remove prayer at its meeting. These secular groups say they're not trying to convert anyone's child, they want all influences of religion or non-religion to disappear from schools. Walter Petit with WKU Secular Student Alliance speaks to Muhlenberg County's School Board as a non religious man and a county native. Some school board members are wearing their faith proudly. The board says its been extremely fair to all non profits. Petit says the Freedom From Religion Foundation may take legal action if the request is denied. His group and the Freedom From Religion Foundation have already visited Muhlenberg County West High School this year. For some residents, they stand with their school board. To pray or not to pray, some say its offensive, others live their life by it. This request to eliminate prayer at meetings wasn't on the agenda so no action was taken. The board says its sending the request to its attorney.

Comments

If christ is not allowed in our schools, then freedom from religion should not be there either. If it is the school board meetings concerning them and they are afraid of prayer that much then they are adults they can step outside or not participate. There are so many important things going on in todays world this is such a petty argument over to pray are not. They took this privledge away from our childrens days and now they are trying to take it from adults too! Well I just say one thing to them: If you have no faith then why are you so afraid of wasting precious time in a meeting to hear a few words spoken to the lord! If you dont believe then why does this bother you so much!
