The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet will start work next Monday to remove a mountable median on U.S. 60 in front of Dollar General in Hawesville. It's a result of a petition drive by students at Hancock County Middle School. Students say a number of crashes at the site prompted a concern for safety. Transportation officials say removing the median will encourage drivers to cross at a safer spot and avoid driving the wrong way into incoming traffic.
