After seeing our coverage of a dog named Sammy, dumped in a field left for dead, a Henderson man has taken him home and nursed him back to health. We first reported to you in January that the Henderson Humane Society found a pit bull named Sammy, who they believe was used as a bait dog in a dog fighting ring.
After more than $4,000 multiple surgeries and tons of TLC, Sammy has made a big recovery. His owner couldn't be happier and says the biggest change he's noticed is the dog's lifted spirits.
"Just an enormous amount of personality," said Sammy's Owner, Dan Pearson. "He's a completely different dog then when I first had him. He was very timid, and now he's living like a new dog. He's out in the yard digging holes, he's chasing rabbits, he's lively he's spunky!"
Doctors say Sammy has limited use of his right ear and left eye. Animal control officials have yet to catch those responsible for sammy's abuse.
