Indiana City Acts to Take Advantage of it's 'New Front Door'

With I-69 set to open in less than a week, a Daviess County, Indiana city is trying to get in on the action.

Washington, Indiana is annexing nearly two square miles to control development near the new highway.

The annexation plan, approved by the Washington City Council, will add some 12-hundred acres of mostly undeveloped land to the city.

Mayor Joe Wellman says the area around I-69 and U.S. 50 will be the city's new front door and should be developed in an orderly way.

The 67-mile stretch of the new i-69 route is scheduled to open Monday.
