The first three sections of the new Interstate 69, between Evansville and the Crane Naval Base, will open to traffic in just a matter of days.

Governor Mitch Daniels will be joined by federal, state and local officials on Monday, November 19th, as the first cars take to the newly constructed 67 mile stretch of highway.

Daniels will attend grand opening ceremonies that day in Evansville, Washington, and near the Crane base.  The Evansville ceremony will be held at 8:40a.m. at the SR68/I-69 interchange.  Speakers will include 8th District Congressman Larry Bucshon, Lt. Gov. Elect, Sue Ellspermann and Evansville Mayor Lloyd Winnicke, among others.

Following the Evansville opening, Governor Daniels will begin a parade ride to the next stop in Washington, Indiana.  Guests there will include long-time I-69 advocate, David Graham.  There will also be a special recognition of construction workers and volunteers.

The final opening ceremony at NSA Crane will include comments from INDOT Commissioner Michael Cline, as well as a special recognition of Indiana basketball legend Bobby Plump and Olympic gold medalist David Boudia.

The first public vehicles are expected to be allowed onto the interstate by 5p.m. Central Time that night.
