Active Warrant for Teacher Accused of Possessing Child Pornography

By: Jordan Vandenberge
Updated: November 16, 2012
A grand jury indicted Daniel Scott Neal, a Hancock County High School teacher and coach, on 39 counts of possessing child pornography.  State investigators searched Neal's home in Owensboro back in May. The search resulted in investigators finding more than 400 pornographic videos and pictures suspected to contain children.

While the investigation continues, Neal's former employer now has to deal with the fallout.

"I received a call from Mr. Neal [Thursday] morning," said Hancock County Schools Superintendent Kyle Estes. "He explained to me he had received an indictment for the felony charges."

"Mr. Neal has been suspended per board policy. With any criminal investigation, any teacher would be suspended under this type of scenario pending the investigation."

Not long has Kyle Estes been superintendent of Hancock County Schools.  Like many, he knew Neal, a veteran teacher and cross county coach at Hancock County High School. .

"Just like our students, shocked, our teachers were shocked, I was shocked," said Estes. "It's unfortunate for him, unfortunate for his family, unfortunate for our school system."

"Everybody knows everybody so we will rally. Our community will rally, our students will rally and we'll move forward. It's hard and it's difficult but we will continue to do what's best for students each day."

There is an active warrant for Neal's arrest. Owensboro Police say officers have tried to make contact with Neal but have been unable to locate him. At this time, officials say Neal's alleged actions do not inolve the school or any school function.
