The Indiana Gaming Commision met Monday to decide whether or not to extend Columbia Sussexs gambling license at Aztar. No decision had to be made, though. Both parties came to an agreement that the casino would be run by a third party until Aztar is sold. Its expected to be sold to a company out of Reno, Nevada called Eldorado Resorts. The third party who will be taking care of Aztar in the meantime is Tom Dingman. Dingman has worked in the industry for 25 years. He will meet with Mayor Weinzapfel Tuesday to discuss the casinos future. The following is a statement from the Mayor on Aztars future. News Release: From: Mayors Office, Evansville Mayor Jonathan Weinzapfel’s Statement on Trustee Appointment, Sale of Casino Aztar “This day has been a long time coming for the City of Evansville. Just over a year ago, I asked the Indiana Gaming Commission to investigate Casino Aztar’s failure to live up to the promises they made to the State and the City. My request was prompted by job cuts, employee complaints and concerns of casino patrons.” “We are glad that Columbia Sussex has agreed to allow a Trustee to run Aztar, rather than make this a long, drawn out battle. I look forward to working with the owners of Eldorado Resorts on issues mutually beneficial to the community and company.”
