It's another busy lunch crowd at The Pie Pan Family Restaurant in Evansville. Assistant Manager Kathleen Wright says the restaurant has called North Park Shopping Center home for the last 30 years. And she's seen it all, the good times and the not so good times.
"We miss a lot of the businesses that were out here and out front there," Kathleen Wright said.
She says even though at times it's been lonely at this location, she hopes the opening of Ruler Foods will breathe new life into North Park.
"Now that everybody is moving in, it really perks up the place," Wright said.
And with this new anchor store, the Pie Pan and other businesses are hoping to feed off of each other, bringing in more hungry customers. Sandra Wenzel stopped to shop at the new grocery store.
"I am so thrilled because I hate to see anything out here empty you know. This was the first shopping center in Evansville and it was a beautiful shopping center. We had shops, and stores, and restaurants. I mean it was wonderful until everybody started going to the east side," Sandra Wenzel said.
She says the new store has variety and the price is right.
"Any time you can save 20 cents, you're gonna do it," Wenzel said.
The social media spokesperson for North Park says there are a handful of spaces available at the shopping center, and businesses are already showing interest. It's just another step to bringing this shopping center back to is former stature.
Ruler Foods has three stores in Evansville, a store in Newburgh, and in Henderson.
