Daviess County Man Facing Charge for Allegedly Torturing Dog

Updated: December 3, 2012
The Daviess County Sheriff's Department is investigating a report of a man who allegedly tied a dog to the trailer hitch on his truck to lead the dog off his property.
Just before 8 a.m. Monday morning, deputies were called to Bartley Road by a neighbor who said the dog broke free from the rope behind the truck and ran up to his house.
Authorities interviewed the suspect 69-year-old Gerald Bartley.
Bartley allegedly told deputies he believed the dog killed his pet cat, and that he tried tying the dog to a tree until Animal Control arrived to pick it up.
Bartley told the deputy the dog continued to get aggressive so he tied it to his truck to lead it away from his property.
The case is now being investigated as a 'Torture of a Dog' violation which is a misdemeanor offense.
The dog was taken to a local vet for treatment.
