St. Mary's employees send a big gift to a local food pantry. They know there's an increase in need at food pantries right now partly because of high food and gas costs. A food drive at the medical center brought in 1,465 food items, along with more than $1,000. It all goes to the St. Vincent de Paul Food Pantry. It comes at a good time for the pantry who served around 2,800 people last month.
"Well, it's great," said Sister Donna Herr of St. Vincent de Paul. "It's a wonderful time of year for us at the pantry because the food collections really do pick up. I think people are just aware that at Christmas and Thanksgiving we don't want anybody to not have adequate food."
The food pantry plans to pick up their donations tomorrow morning.
