Western Kentucky fans may be happy to hear their new head football coach has a long history of winning, but Bobby Petrino's checkered off the field history has others skeptical.
Former WKU punter and Reitz graduate Brian Claybourn says Petrino's got a lot of success on which to build.
Excitement is building in Bowling Green. Bobby Petrino is bringing his winning ways to Western Kentucky. But with it comes mountains of baggage. Brian Claybourn punted for WKU's D-1AA National Championship team in 2002.  He hopes Petrino has grown from his apparent mistakes.
The track record speaks for itself.  Petrino is 75-26 as a college head coach.  But here's the baggage.  Six months after signing a contract extension at Louisville, Petrino bolted to the Atlanta Falcons, where he left with three games left in the regular season for Arkansas.
The scandal that followed, involving an affair and motorcycle ride, threatened his coaching future forever.
Claybourn believes former coach Willie Taggart provided a solid foundation for Petrino upon which to build.  He says he hopes Petrino's past won't rear its ugly head again in the future.
