breaking news
We're in the midst of the holiday season and one Posey County family says it isn't sure where it's going to be staying after a fire tears through a mobile home. The fire started just after 11 Wednesday morning in the Twin Lakes Mobile Home Park near the Posey and Vanderburgh county line. There were no injuries but two gerbils and a ferret did not survive. The Red Cross, Marrs Township Ladies Auxiliary and neighbors were all on hand to help out the Hammers family, with two small children and Christmas just weeks away, a loss during the holidays hits a little deeper. Crews say the fire started in a back bedroom, a four and six year old were home but got out safely. Sandra Hile and members of the Marrs Township Ladies Auxiliary are on scene, doing what they can to comfort the family. The pain this family feels increases since the holiday season is so close. But in the midst of tragedy there's hope, help and kindness. Non-profits say caring is a 365 day kind of job and they'll do whatever is needed to give this family as good a Christmas as possible. A cause for the fire has not been determined. The fire was put out in less than 40 minutes, the red cross stayed on scene to help the family with shelter, if you'd like to donate you can send size 6 clothes for the six year old boy, size 4T for the four year old girl, adult clothing for the parents, and toys and toiletries. Everything can be sent to The Red Cross under the name Brandy Hammers.
