We learned new information Thursday about the mother facing abuse charges. Amanda Brooks' 3 year old son, Kalab, died Tuesday.
Authorities say he was believed to have been violently shaken.
Brooks is a mother to 7 other children. Her brother-in-law says two of them are in foster care in southern Illinois. Kalab and three of his siblings were in foster care themselves, but had just recently been returned to their mother and father, Terry Lay.
Terry Lay faces a neglect charge.
The Vanderburgh County Coroner is expected to perform Kalab's autopsy on Thursday, after his organs are taken for donation. He's still being held on life support, despite being declared dead, so his organs will stay viable. The boy's mother made the decision to make Kalab a donor.
Brooks could face more charges after those autopsy results are released. Right now, she and Lay only face charges for abuse of Kalab's twin sister.
