MUNCIE, Ind. (AP) -- Muncie police say a man beat his 12-year-old son with a belt, then placed spicy mustard on the injuries.
The Delaware County Jail said Saturday that 41-year-old Juanis Ali Kirksey was being held without bond on preliminary charges of battery resulting in serious bodily injury, neglect and resisting law enforcement.
The Star Press reports (http://tspne.ws/RwlyDG) officers went to his apartment Thursday after neighbors reported hearing a child being beaten.
Officers reported finding the boy and a 9-year-old sister "terrified." They say the boy had welts and scratches on his right forearm, back, buttocks and elsewhere. Spicy mustard was spread on the forearm, apparently to increase his discomfort.
The boy was treated at a hospital. Their mother took custody of the children.
Jail records didn't indicate if Kirksey had an attorney.
