46-year-old Archie M. Whalen of Maine, has been sentenced to 30 years in federal prison for transporting a minor across state lines with the intent to engage in criminal sexual activity.
A federal jury in Owensboro found Whalen guilty in July and sentenced him Monday.
The United States Attorney's Office said Whalen took a 13-year-old girl from her home in Owensboro in September of 2009.
An Amber Alert was issued in several states and the girl was found with Whalen in Wisconsin less than 24 hours later.
Investigators said Whalen drove from Maine to Daviess County, Kentucky to get the girl.
The child's mother had briefly lived with Whalen's roommate in the past.

this was from a article that was published right after this happened A 13-year-old Owensboro girl is on her way home Monday night, after police said she was kidnapped by a family friend, but according to the police report, Haley Willett said she went willingly with Archie Whalen. She told police she and Whalen devised a plan to get away and start over because she was having a difficult time with her mother. "I'm sure he felt like he was saving her or protecting her but as far as a physical, no it's not who he is," Whalen's sister Blanche Whalen said. Willett also told police Whalen never touched her, and they went to Sturgeon Bay to live with his sister Blanche.
