It appears the last hope for a three year old who apparently died at the hands of his parents was CPR given by his mom and dad. Amanda Brooks and Terry Lay could both face murder charges once the autopsy is complete. That should happen Thursday. It was brooks herself who called 9-1-1 asking for an ambulance. She and her husband are then the ones responsible for giving their 3 year old son Kalab CPR trying to save his life. Dispatcher: Evansville 9-1-1 Brooks: Yes. I need an ambulance. Dispatcher: stay on the line. The call came from Eastbrook mobile home park around noon Monday. You can hear three year old Kalabs mom screaming in the background. Lay: I need an emergency here 2415 long point drive. Brooks: Oh my god. Terry. dispatcher: Hes not breathing now? Lay: No. His lips are purple and hes not doing anything. First on the phone is Kalabs dad 40 year old Terry Lay. Hes charged with neglect. dispatcher: Im going to tell you what to do for him, okay? Lay: Okay. Dispatcher: Look in his mouth and see if you see any food or vomit. Eventually Lay turns the CPR duties over to his wife 33 year old Amanda Brooks. Shes charged with neglect and battery. dispatcher: Is there anyone you can relay this to? Lay: Amanda. Amanda. dispatcher: Is he breathing? Lay: No. Dispatcher: Were going to do mouth to mouth with his head tilted back. Terry: Were doing mouth to mouth. Amanda: I dont know how. Terry: Shes telling me how to do it. A doctor who saw Kalabs injuries says he was severely beaten, but the parents still attempt to breath for him. Lay: Theres a bunch of mucous or something coming up You can even hear the little boy gasping for breath in the background. groaning Dispatcher: What is he doing now? Tell me everything. Amanda: Thats him gaggin for breath. Ohhh. Kalabs infant brother and two year old son were also taken from the home with bruises. Amanda:Oh god. Nothing. Dispatcher: Okay. Were going to keep doing this until they get there okay? Amanda: (Inaudible) Oh god. Oh. Family members say the couple has 8 kids. Two are in child protective services in Illinois. The four found yesterday were just returned from Child Protective Services in Indiana. And of course little Kalab is dead.
