EVSC Leaders Join Mayor on School Safety Discussions

By: Jenny Hunt
Updated: December 19, 2012
In light of the recent tragedy in Newtown, Connecticut, Evansville Mayor Lloyd Winnecke is discussing school safety procedures with administrators in the EVSC.
Mayor Winnecke and EVSC Superintendent Dr. David Smith spoke by phone Wednesday to organize a roundtable discussion with area law enforcement.
The roundtable discussion resulted in three immediate action steps:
Local officials will start the process of sharing uniform security procedures with the goal of forming a uniform emergency protocol to help law enforcement in emergency situations.
Also all school building and facilities will undergo a safety reassessment.
Officials also say they will be seeking funding to further enhance security measures in all Evansville and Vanderburgh County schools.
We're told conversations will continue over the holidays with specific groups and the entire team will meet again in January.

I hope they move foward with a plan...keep our children safe before something else happens, hopefully not in our area.
