Top Universities Becoming Even Harder To Get Into
A high GPA and extra curricular activities might not be the ticket into the countrys top schools.
"The New York Times" reports the already hard to get into colleges and universities have a record low acceptance rate this year.
Brown University admitted 13-percent of its applicants, Georgetown University accepted 18-percent and Yale let in only eight-percent.
Harvard College admitted a record seven-percent of its applicants.
Thats just seven out of every 100.
Many of the rejected had extraordinary achievements such as perfect SAT exam scores.
Dean of undergraduate admissions at Yale, Jeffrey Brenzel, says the reason for seemingly low acceptance is a persistent rise in applications.
He said ten years ago less than 12,000 students applied to Yale.
Today there are over 22,000 applicants.
High School counselors are reminding their students a rejection letter is due to heavy applicant numbers, not their merits as individuals.
