breaking news
While some tri-state families are celebrating time with loved ones, there are many families grieving and dealing with the loss of life. This weekend we reported a deadly shooting in Evansville on the 500 block of South Denby Avenue that's left a man dead and the shooter has yet to be charged. For one neighbor on Denby, his heart yearns for both families and wishes he was there that faithful moment when 19 year old Devon Gee was shot and killed. Evansville Police say the shooter is a 79 year old grandfather protecting his 17 year old grand-daughter. Stephen Brown is Chaplain for the Vanderburgh County Jail and says this shooting was preventable, he lives just a few doors down from the scene. As a man of God, Brown says this season is a time for reflection and growth. He wants the violence to end and says its possible, but that responsibility lies on parents and community leaders communicating with our youth. For both families dealing with tragedy, Brown prays for future days free of pain, pain he faces at his job at the jail and says often comes from quick and poor decisions. Charges have not been filed against the grandfather, EPD will send the case to the Prosecutor's Office which has the final decision. Names have yet to be released and officials aren't commenting on if the 79 year old has a gun permit.
