It's not just any day, it's Christmas, meaning plenty of determined travelers hitting the highways to get home. "We are going to Jacksonville, North Carolina." Some are more prepared than others. "Transmission fluid, the windshield wiper fluid, check tire pressure, fill the gas tank, blankets in the trunk, gallon of water, extra shoes, extra socks, slippers. My dad is a truck driver so this is in my blood. My main thing is just making sure everything is good in here so that we're not stuck. That is the big concern," says holiday traveler Marie Heward.
The less experienced are just playing it safe. "I'm heading back to Madisonville Kentucky. My son lives here in Evansville. I wanted to get back in case it was bad weather or anything. I don't really even like to drive at night, especially this type of weather with people traveling so much and everything. With the prediction of the bad weather, I want to be on the safe side and get home," says Tony Parris.
Whether you're prepared or playing it safe. The visit with the family may have to be longer than planned. "The best thing I think is if you don't know what you are doing, stay home. Stay home don't leave, yeah that would be my advice."
Transportation officials have already treated the roadways and are working with METS to get transportation for the public, but don't fall into a false sense of security.
