Family and friends are remembering the life of Sam Featherstone, the Newburgh teenager who inspired many to join the battle against cancer.

Sam passed away Wednesday morning after battling brain cancer for several years.  He started the SAMSTRONG: Search for the Cure foundation, which raised money for St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital.  Last Thursday's fundraiser raised nearly $200,000.  Dave Keller knew Sam and his family for many years.  He says Sam taught him about helping others.

"I'm 53 years old and Sam's half my age, and he taught me a lot about being selfless and looking out beyond my personal sphere," he says.

Fr. Joe Ziliak of St. John's the Baptist Church in Newburgh says SAMSTRONG was a good example of Sam's selflessness.

"His cause, his idea of leaving a legacy, that's big thinking," he says.  "It's wonderful thinking from a young man."

A prayer service for Sam and his family is scheduled for 6:00 PM Thursday at the Memorial High School auditorium.
